General CommentI've always loved this song, and like some of the people on here, it took on a deeper meaning after i lost a family member to suicide.

Dedicated to the men and women who took their lives. Emotion, committment, a realisation that music changes lives. He addresses the song very personally and emotionally and that is fairly rare in today's musical society. I don't care if I never see you again, but just don't do this.

It shows the committment of the protagonist. All it takes is one good moment and someone's life is saved. In addition to that, I think, personally, this song highlights the role friends and other people in general, play in preventing suicide. This is coming from an interview, in which he simply states: "It's about a friend who's gay jumping off a bridge and killing themselves." Being homosexual in that almost military environment was unacceptable and the young man took the bridge home, so to speak. This song is about a story the band's manager told them about a gay friend of his from San Diego. General CommentGood morning or evening or day or night or afternoon ladies and gentlemen and whassup. The narrator also has a very caring voice as he sings about suicide. I found this interesting because one of the most depressing and serious issues is being discussed. Although, the song’s musical tone is much different. The angry boy ends up dieing after committing suicide. For instance, the song talks about suicide and when dealing with this issue there is no time for hesitation. This is because it had a more serious meaning to its lines. For example, the narrator says, “We all have to face down our demons” and “put the past away.” The lyrical tone of Jumper is somber. The song then moves on to enunciate the theme which is you should not let what happens in your past affect your future.

In the next stanza, the phrase “he is on the table and he’s gone to code” is a metaphor for the medical term code blue. The singer then encourages the boy to put his past away and step off of the subsequent ledge. Due to this persons suffering, they become depressed. Such as, “you’re the first to fight, you’re way to loud.” He also sings “you’re the flash of light on a burial shroud.” This means to say that sometimes people are discriminated against because of their differences. The narrator starts stanza one by listing various troubles that make this person an outcast. The song Jumper discusses a boy who did not fit in and who was angry at the world. (I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend) Well, he's on the table and he's gone to codeĪnd your friends have left you, you've been dismissed
